Setting language tags

When you have subscribed to Clonable you will receive an email from us containing the DNS records and the SEO language tags that need to be changed. By adding these language tags to the code of your website Google will view your clone as an original site, instead of dupilcate content.

There are several ways to add the language tags. D Depending on your platform, this script needs to be pasted in different places. In the mail (and later also in the backend of Clonable) you will find a short instruction on where exactly to paste the piece.

When you order a new clone from us, you will receive an email from us about how you should set the language tags. This is different for each platform. We make sure you get the right script with the right instructions to set the language tags in the right way. It is easiest to copy the script verbatim from the e-mail. When you try to type it, it could be that spelling errors are made or that parts are missing, which causes the script not to work.

You can also review the instructions for the language tags at a later time, for example if you want to re-enable them after disabling them. When the clone is completed, you can find the instructions in your Clonable environment.

You can find the instructions and data for your clones by going to the site settings in the Clonable dashboard, and clicking the Setup information tab. Then click the link under Setting up your language tags. A popup will appear in which you can choose your platform. Based on that choice, you will be shown the script/data needed.

Wordpress

Clonable has made a plugin for Wordpress, which you can install on your site. You can download this plugin in the plugin catalog of Wordpress. After installing this plugin, you only have to copy the JSON that was generated in the control panel to the plugin settings. You can find these settings within the Wordpress admin interface under Settings --> Clonable. Before installing the plugin, always check carefully that there are no already existing hreflangs in the source code. If they are already there and you are using the Clonable plugin, it is possible that they will be duplicated. Always check this. Should any problems arise, feel free to contact us.

Magento 2

Clonable is currently working on a plugin for Magento 2. Until this plugin is ready, you can use the same method used for Magento 1. The only difference is that you have to place the script in the index.php directly under <?php.

Magento 1

Magento 1 uses a small piece of PHP code that will add language tags to your site via the Link header. This has the same effect as placing language tags in the HTML. The script is automatically generated for your situation in the dashboard. You paste this script into your index.php, just before the line Mage::run($mageRunCode, $mageRunType).

Laravel

We have created a Laravel middleware called ClonableLinkHeader that you can place in your application. It should be registered as a global middleware. You can find the script in the backend of Clonable under 'Language Tags'. It has been tested with Laravel 8, but should work with other versions as well. You can ofcourse also make your own solution.

Other PHP system

With other PHP systems, you can generally use a generated piece of PHP code from the Clonable dashboard. This script will add language tags to your site via the Link header. In most cases you can place this script in index.php. As long as the script is executed before any page content is generated, it will work just fine. You can of course also add the necessary language tags in your own way.

Lightspeed

We will create a custom script and send it to you. This should then be added to the Google Tag Manager of your website. You can also grant us (one-time) access to your GTM, so we can set this up for you.

Other CMS systems

Other CMS systems may require the use of Google Tag Manager. This is for example the case with Logic4. In that case we created a piece of code ourselves. This can be added by you in Google Tag Manager as a new tag, or you give us access to your Tag Manager and let us add it.

We will tell you which way is the right one for your system. If you have any problems or can't figure it out, don't hesitate to contact us.
