Email Translations

Email and PDF translation

The Email Translations module lets you have WooCommerce emails and PDF documents translated automatically into the language of the clone the order was placed on.

In addition, you can configure custom sender details, logos and company information per clone.

Both features work independently of each other and are enabled and disabled with their own setting:

  • Email translation — translates WooCommerce emails and adjusts sender details per clone.
  • PDF translation — translates PDF documents (invoices and packing slips) and adjusts company details per clone.
caution

When the Clonable Advanced module is also active, it can handle WooCommerce email translation as well. Do not use the email translation of this module and Clonable Advanced at the same time, to avoid duplicate translations or conflicts.

Email translation

Enable WooCommerce email translations

When this setting is enabled, WooCommerce emails are translated automatically into the language of the clone the order was placed on.

Both the subject and the body of the email are translated. The clone is determined based on the order, so emails that are sent at a later moment (for example on a status change) are sent in the right language too.

Examples of emails that can be translated:

  • New order
  • Order processing
  • Order completed
  • Customer notes
  • Refunds

As a result, customers receive emails in the same language as the webshop they placed their order on.

info

The translation works together with SMTP plugins such as WP Mail SMTP. The sender details are also applied directly on the mail server, so they are set correctly even when an external mail service is used.

Excluding email addresses

WooCommerce email translations excluded addresses

Sometimes it is desirable for certain recipients to always receive the original email, for example internal addresses that monitor orders.

To do so, add one or more email addresses to the exclusion list. Multiple addresses can be separated with a comma.

support@example.com, administratie@example.com

Emails to these addresses are not translated.

Sender details per clone

WooCommerce email headers by domain

You can configure separate sender details for each clone. This makes it possible to give every clone its own identity.

The clones from your Clonable account are shown automatically in a table. For each clone you can set:

  • From address — the email address that is visible as the sender of the email, for example shop@example.de.
  • Reply-To address — the email address customers can send replies to, for example support@example.de.
  • Sender name — the name that is visible as the sender, for example Example Shop Germany.
  • Email logo — an alternative logo for this clone, chosen from the media library. This logo is used in the WooCommerce emails that are sent for this clone.

All fields are optional. When a field is left empty, Clonable automatically uses the default WooCommerce settings.

PDF translation

info

The PDF translation works together with the WooCommerce PDF Invoices & Packing Slips plugin, which generates the PDF documents. Clonable translates the content of these documents, but does not generate them itself. Without this plugin, PDF translation is not available.

Enable PDF invoice translations

When this setting is enabled, the content of the generated PDF documents is translated automatically into the language of the clone the order was placed on.

Examples of documents that can be translated:

  • Invoices
  • Packing slips

The customer and address details (such as the billing and shipping address and the company details of the shop) are deliberately not translated, so names, addresses and company information remain unchanged.

Company details per clone

WooCommerce order email PDF replacements by domain

Besides translating the text, you can adjust the company details in the PDF documents per clone. This lets you show the right local company information for each clone.

The clones are shown automatically in a table. The following fields, among others, are available per clone:

  • Shop phone number
  • Shop email address
  • Shop name
  • VAT number
  • CoC number (Chamber of Commerce number)
  • Address line 1
  • Address line 2
  • Country
  • State / Province
  • City
  • Postcode
  • Additional address info

When a field is left empty, Clonable automatically uses the default value of the webshop.

PDF logo per clone

The logo you set for a clone under WooCommerce email headers by domain is also used in the PDF documents of that same clone. That way the emails and the PDF documents of a clone use the same logo, without you having to set this in two places.

Example

Suppose your webshop is active in the Netherlands, Germany and France.

You could then set your own sender and company details per clone, for example:

CloneCompany nameEmail
example.nlVoorbeeldshop Nederlandinfo@example.nl
example.deBeispielshop Deutschlandinfo@example.de
example.frBoutique Exemple Franceinfo@example.fr

As a result, customers receive emails and PDF documents that fit the local market better.

Frequently asked questions

Are WooCommerce emails translated automatically?

Yes. When Enable WooCommerce email translations is enabled, Clonable automatically translates WooCommerce emails into the language of the clone.

Are PDF invoices translated too?

Yes. When Enable PDF invoice translations is enabled, Clonable translates the content of supported PDF documents. This requires the WooCommerce PDF Invoices & Packing Slips plugin.

Do email and PDF translation work independently of each other?

Yes. Both features have their own setting and can be enabled or disabled separately.

Do I have to set separate details for every clone?

No. All fields are optional. When a field is left empty, the default WooCommerce settings are used.

Can I use a different logo per clone?

Yes. Via WooCommerce email headers by domain you can select a separate logo for every clone. This logo is used both in the emails and in the PDF documents of that clone.

Are address details in the PDF translated too?

No. The customer and address details in the PDF documents are deliberately not translated, so names and addresses remain unchanged. You can adjust the company details per clone via WooCommerce order email PDF replacements by domain.

What happens if a field is left empty?

Clonable then automatically uses the default details of the webshop.
